Community Challenge Hailed Success!

On Sunday 1st October the youth involved in the Community Sports Challenge participated in their last event.

At the end of the games it was Middlefield who claimed the title of football challenge champion receiving their first 100 points of the tournament, Fersands had to settle for runner up with Northfield taking the admirable 3rd position on the podium with Kaimhill settling for 4th and gaining 60 points for their team.

Run in a similar format to the decathlon over 50 youth aged 12-15 took part in the Aberdeen Community Sports Challenge. The youth received 2 training sessions in each sport and then entered into a mini tournament.  A design the challenge trophy competition was also part of the challenge, with the winning design which was submitted by Northfield Community Group was created. 6 trophies were made and donated by Loftus Signs, ensuring everone's a winner in the Community Sports Challenge.

And everyone was a winner, after adding up the scores and awarding bonus points for sportsmanship, team spirit, effort and respect each team walked away with a trophy and tickets to the Scotland v’s Australia rugby game at Murrayfield in November courtesy of First Group.

The objective of the event  - 'to provide the opportunity for youth from the regeneration areas to participate in and gain sustainable access to sport in their local communities' has proved to be a success.  A number of the youth involved in the programme have joined sports clubs, while others are delighted to have had the opportunity to try sports that are not easily accessible to them.  In addition, the youth claimed to have made new friends and the challenge has helped break down barriers between communities in Aberdeen

The success of the Community Sports Challenge organised by activitymix and Scottish Business in the Community, lies in the support provided by the companies who sponsored the challenge.  In addition to the  sponsorship activitymix and SBC are pursuing further learning and development opportunities that the companies can offer and support the community groups on a long term basis.

Thanks to all the sponsors who enabled the Community Sports Challenge to take place and we look forward to continue working together to build a better future for the youth in our communities.
